Success at appeal – Class Q consent for barn conversion into 2 dwellings, rural Worcestershire

A few years ago we went to see a defunct former apple shed in Martley, Worcestershire. The brief was to maximise its value with some form of planning permission, and given its remote location we suggested pursuing Class Q change of use from agricultural to dwelling. Unfortunately the Council refused our initial application, and so we took stock and aimed to resolve some issues. We resubmitted our application, for two new homes from a single barn which was, again, refused by the Local Authority. Our view was that the refusal reasons did not stack up and we were instructed by the Client to appeal the decision.

We finally, after two applications and a year or so, achieved full prior approval permission under Class Q for the barn to be converted into two new homes. The Client is over-the-moon and will soon be marketing the building to achieve their initial aim of boosting value from the site!
